What is the Interest Free Student Loan Scheme (IFSLS)?

The Interest Free Student Loans Scheme (IFSLS) provides eligible students with an opportunity to follow selected degree programmes at approved Degree Awarding Institutes (DAIs).

The scheme is implemented by the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education. The handbook states that the government bears the interest during the loan period.

🎯 Who Can Apply?

Candidates who sat the G.C.E. (A/L) Examination in 2023, 2024 or 2025 and have been considered qualified for university entrance may apply for the 2026/27 academic year, subject to the specified eligibility requirements.

General Eligibility Requirements

• Simple (S) passes for all three A/L subjects in one sitting.
• The examination should not exceed three sittings.
• A minimum of 30 marks for the Common General Test at any sitting.
• A simple pass in General English at G.C.E. (A/L) or English Language at G.C.E. (O/L).
• The applicant should be 25 years or below by 27 September 2026.

💰 Maximum Loan Amounts – 11th Intake

The handbook also specifies different maximum amounts within the Science and ICT categories depending on the degree programme.

📌 Selection Process

• Applicants may apply for any number of eligible degree programmes according to their preference.
• An applicant can ultimately be selected for only one degree programme.
• Selection considers the applicant’s preferences and available seating capacity.
• Z-Score may be considered when applications exceed the number of available seats.
• Priority is given according to the applicant’s preference order.

📝 Online Application Deadline

⚠️ Deadline: 27 September 2026
Applicants must submit and finalize their online application before midnight on the closing date. Applicants are advised to keep the acknowledgement email and application PDF for future reference.

🎤 Interview Process

Qualified applicants will be contacted by email for online interviews within a period of one month after the application deadline. The qualified applicant list will also be published through the Ministry’s website.

• National Identity Card or Passport
• Original G.C.E. (A/L) certificate
• Original G.C.E. (O/L) certificate
• School Leaving Certificate
• Bridging course result sheet, if applicable
• Grama Niladhari Certificate
• Original Birth Certificate

Applicants should also prepare the required certification depending on whether they sat the A/L examination as a school candidate or private candidate.

🎯 யார் விண்ணப்பிக்கலாம்?

2023, 2024 அல்லது 2025 G.C.E. A/L பரீட்சையில் தோற்றி, பல்கலைக்கழக அனுமதிக்குத் தகுதி பெற்றவர்கள், குறிப்பிடப்பட்ட நிபந்தனைகளுக்கு உட்பட்டு 2026/27 கல்வியாண்டிற்கான IFSLS திட்டத்திற்கு விண்ணப்பிக்கலாம்.

முக்கிய தகுதிகள்

• ஒரே அமர்வில் மூன்று பாடங்களிலும் குறைந்தது S Pass பெற்றிருக்க வேண்டும்.
• அதிகபட்சம் மூன்று தடவைகளுக்குள் A/L பரீட்சையை எழுதியிருக்க வேண்டும்.
• Common General Test இல் குறைந்தது 30 மதிப்பெண்கள் பெற்றிருக்க வேண்டும்.
• A/L General English அல்லது O/L English Language இல் குறைந்தது S Pass பெற்றிருக்க வேண்டும்.
• 2026 செப்டம்பர் 27 அன்று வயது 25 அல்லது அதற்கு குறைவாக இருக்க வேண்டும்.
